Building a No Kill Community with Nathan Winograd - Request your free tickets at http://www.savemoreanimals.org for this very special event. Animal advocate and author Nathan Winograd has been involved in successful companion animal program reforms in San Francisco, California, and Tompkins County, New York, and he has recently published a book called “Redemption: The Myth of Pet Overpopulation and the No Kill Revolution in America.” He is an attorney who is now the director of the national No Kill Advocacy Center, whose “No Kill Equation” outlines the steps necessary for building no kill communities (see www.nathanwinograd.com and www.nokilladvocacycenter.org). 6:30 - 9:30 pm. An Evening with Professor Ron Wilkins - Black and Brown: Is Our Struggle Against Each Other? Or Do We Have a Hidden History of Unity? Ron Wilkins is an experienced and veteran cross-cultural collaboration specialist whose work focuses on preventing and resolving conflict, and strengthening mutually-supportive relationships between Black and Brown peoples. Through education, advocacy and intervention, he enables Mexican and African people in particular, to develop capacity to create and sustain understanding, friendships and cooperation. He accomplishes this by presenting previously suppressed information on the rich collaborative histories and ancestors that are common to both groups. Ninth Annual Ironwood Festival - Live folk-rock music in the evening caps a free environmental education fair in the afternoon on 20 acres of preserved ironwood-saguaro habitat in northwest Tucson. Local organizations will offer free hands-on activities demonstrating facets of bird migration and the importance of the ironwood forest as a habitat. Visitors will observe live raptor presentations, see and learn about bobcats, scorpions, tarantulas and other native desert creatures and plants. Live folk-rock music and dancing begins 5:30 p.m. with Ray of Hope Band; Ironwood Allstars, with Kevin Schramm, Tim O'Connor, Donny Russell and Brian Davies; and Eb’s Kamp Kookin’, with Tim O'Connor and Tim Weidenkeller.
