About the Classes: A series of 11 tai chi classes begins on September 9 at Mountain Vista UU—the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Northwest Tucson. Beginning Tai Chi Class is at 3:30 pm. For experienced students, a continuing class meets at 4:30 pm. The classes last for an hour. No special clothing is necessary for tai chi, just comfortable apparel that permits movement. You are welcome to attend the first class at no obligation and find out what tai chi is all about. These classes are open to the public. Fee: $75 for the 11 classes. Contact Elizabeth Reed at reedeliz@gmai.com or 510-269-3414. About Tai Chi: Tai chi has existed since ancient times as an exercise to improve health. It is a series of quiet supple movements—the quiet to cultivate the spirit; the supple to cultivate the body. This gentle exercise is performed in a calm and peaceful manner, emphasizing relaxation, balance, and coordination. Said to have begun in Taoist monasteries of China as a way to improve health, Tai chi for some is an avenue to understanding Taoism and experiencing its essence of harmony and flow. For others, it is a practice that improves balance and flexibility. For still others, it is the gentlest of the martial arts. What will it be for you? The 2010 Legislature Flunked Environmental Protection: We Work for a Better 2011 Legislature.
After each session of the Arizona Legislature comes to an end, we hear: "It cannot possibly get any worse." Well, it can, and it did during the 2010 Legislative Session. Particularly troubling was the lack of support from the legislative leadership or the governor for protection of Arizona’s groundwater, rivers and streams, and for maintaining our state parks system. Chapter Director Sandy Bahr discusses these and other issues from the session, and talks about candidates we support in November who, with our help, can create an Arizona Legislature that makes the grade when it comes to environmental protection. |
