Students, parents and guest artists will participate in popular holiday classic TUCSON, AZ (November 17, 2009)—Dancing in the Streets Arizona will present the holiday classic, “Baile de los Cascanueses” (The Nutcracker Ballet) on December 26 and 27 at 2 p.m. at the Pima Community College Center for the Arts Proscenium Theatre. The theatre is located at 2202 W. Anklam Road in Tucson. Live music will be provided by the Civic Orchestra of Tucson. Tickets for the performance are priced at $10 ($12 at the door) and are available by calling the Box Office at 206-6986. Children age 5 and under will be admitted free of charge. According to Dancing in the Streets board President Marian Lupu, the ballet—which is based upon a fairy tale by E.T.A. Hoffman—was first performed in St. Petersburg, Russia in 1892 and quickly became a favorite with audiences of all ages. “I believe our rendition is especially successful because of Joseph Rodgers’ ability to choreograph all his dancers, from three-year-olds to adults, in a way that brings out their individual strengths and abilities,” said Mrs. Lupu. “A generous dose of humor adds to the overall audience experience.” Rodgers, who serves as Dancing in the Streets’ Artistic Director, added, “For nearly 20 years, I have worked with literally hundreds of dancers, both professionals and amateurs, but I am amazed at the amount of real talent I have seen here in South Tucson. Our performers come alive on stage, and the audience responds with enthusiasm.” For additional information about the performance or to learn more about Dancing in the Streets Arizona, call 867-8489 or visit the organization’s Web site at www.ditsaz.org. # # # About Dancing in the Streets Arizona (DITSAZ): Dancing in the Streets Arizona is a not-for-profit organization that uses the excitement and discipline of ballet to guide children in achieving life skills.
